In late 2025, Undugu's agricultural training transformed Mrs. Barasa's life. Learning sustainable farming turned her small, barren plot into a lush vegetable garden. Now, she not only feeds her family but sells the surplus at the local market. The income paid for her daughter's school fees. Mrs. Barasa proudly teaches the same techniques to other women in her village, creating a ripple effect of food security and empowerment. The training sowed a seed that grew into her family's stability.

Just this month in December 2025, the community of Butula gathered with Undugu for a tree-planting day. Maria, a local leader, carefully planted her first seedling by the community center. She learned its role in cleaning the air and preventing soil erosion. Months later, seeing her thriving tree gave her immense pride. This simple act connected her to the environment and inspired her to lead the care for other new saplings, greening their neighborhood one tree at a time.

In 2025, when Mrs. Nafula fell ill, Undugu's volunteers visited her in her home. They brought food, medicine, and companionship, ensuring she wasn't forgotten. Their regular check-ins lifted her spirits during recovery. Moved by their kindness, Mrs. Nafula, once a teacher, later began mentoring children at the Undugu youth club from her porch. The visit restored her health and purpose, proving that care for one person strengthens the entire community's fabric.

A dynamic after-school tuition programme kicked off this week at Undugu Grounds in Busia County, offering academic support and enrichment opportunities for local youth. Designed to boost performance in core subjects and strengthen confidence, the initiative brings together volunteer educators and community mentors to deliver structured learning sessions Monday through Friday.

The programme aligns with community goals to close learning gaps and prepare students for success in national exams and future careers. Participants have already reported increased engagement and understanding in mathematics, science, and language studies.

For enquiries or to support the initiative, community members are encouraged to connect with the Undugu Grounds tuition team.

After-School Tuition Initiative Empowers Local Youth at Undugu Grounds

Undugu Grounds — A dynamic after-school tuition programme kicked off this week at Undugu Grounds, offering academic support and enrichment opportunities for local youth. The programme aligns with community goals to close learning gaps and prepare students for success in national exams and future careers. Participants have already reported increased engagement and understanding in mathematics, science, and language studies.

Organizers emphasize continued collaboration with families, schools, and partners to scale impact and secure resources for expanded offerings in 2026.

The Centre continues its weekly sanitary pad distribution, ensuring adolescent girls and young women have consistent access to safe menstrual products and essential hygiene information. This ongoing initiative is reducing absenteeism, restoring confidence, and reinforcing dignity for beneficiaries across the community.

Beyond distribution, the sessions integrate mentorship, menstrual health education, and referrals to support services, creating a holistic platform for wellbeing and school retention. The programme is community-led and youth-focused, with steady uptake reflecting strong trust and demand.

This weekly milestone underscores Undugu’s commitment to scalable, sustainable solutions that keep girls in school and enable young women to thrive.

First encountered the Undugu Mentorship Initiative while struggling in school. Through their support, she not only graduated but became the first in her family to attend college. Today, she has "come full circle," rejoining the initiative as a mentor herself. She now guides young students at her former school, embodying the organization's mission to create role models within the community.

As a mother in the Bumala community, Grace worried most about feeding her children, who often went to school hungry. The Undugu feeding program ensured her children received a daily nutritious meal, which kept them healthy and active in school. With this crucial support in place, Grace could consistently run her small market stall. The stability allowed her business to grow slowly, making her a reliable breadwinner for her family and moving them toward a more secure future.

After facing extreme hardship, Mary found herself without a stable home, struggling with the stigma and insecurity of street life. The Undugu Society provided her with more than a safe place to stay; they offered her comprehensive rehabilitation and a connection to a supportive community. Through their programs, she accessed counseling and learned new skills. Now, Mary is safely housed, has reconciled with her family, and volunteers with the organization that helped her rebuild her life.
